13th-16th January - Drumming Out 2011

Drumming Out 2011
A Titanic Experience
Belfast 13 - 16 January 2011

Welcome to Northern Ireland

Welcome Senators, to Northern Ireland and to our Capital City, Belfast. Our small country, and our city, needs no introduction to many of you. To those of you who haven’t enjoyed good Northern hospitality before, and to our more seasoned visitors, we extend a hearty welcome to you all. Join us for a memorable weekend of craic as we bring Marretta’s own titanic year to a close in the city renowned for…the Titanic! As so many of you have done in the past, we hope that you will not only attend the full Drumming Out Weekend, but also extend your stay to savour more of what Northern Ireland has to offer. Below are our plans for the Drumming Out Weekend, 13th – 16th January 2011.

Thursday 13 January

You are encouraged to start the weekend off by arriving on Thursday afternoon so as to be in plenty of time to join us for early supper and experience a never to be forgotten visit to Northern Ireland’s famous pantomime at Belfast’s Grand Opera House. We will have a light supper at the Opera House prior to the performance.

Friday 14 January

In serious mode, our first exploration of the day will be to our impressive Parliament Buildings, at Stormont. Another titanic experience, we are sure you will agree, as you tour the building and enjoy lunch in the magnificent surroundings. In the afternoon we have had to change plans from the printed booking form as unfortunately the advertised Wheel has gone! we are now offering the “Linenhall Library” in its place (not an ordinary Library but dates back to 1788) and we can promise you that you will not want to miss this ; or the ever popular Belfast Historic Pub Tour. The tour is, however, strictly limited in numbers, so early booking is essential. If none of the above appeal to you – tours of “City Hall and St. Anne’s Cathedral” can be organized. There will be a few hours back at the hotel to rest before hitting the t-own again for the traditional “Irish Night”.

Saturday 15 January

Now the Titanic Experience really comes into its own as, after breakfast, we take you back to where it all began. Throughout the day we will explore where Titanic was built and glean insights into the history and experiences surrounding her construction. But as we explore the past, we also hope to add to your experience something of the titanic advances Belfast itself has made in recent years. We plan to return to the hotel in plenty of time for rest and relaxation before the Drumming Out Banquet at 7.00p.m.

Sunday 16 January

The traditional Senate Breakfast/Brunch brings to a close our titanic weekend, and Marretta’s own titanic year, while welcoming in David as Senate Chairman 2011.
