Has it been a long time since you joined a Senate Weekend?  If so we would love to see you in Wells in September.  Those of you who know me well will know that I have organised two Senate Weekends in the West of England but on this occasion I have joined forces with my good friend, Richard Kilburn to give you an insight into a smaller, more historic City.

  • Accommodation: The Swan Hotel, Wells – tel no 01749 836300
Owing to the popularity of Wells we strongly advise you to reserve your room direct with the hotel as soon as possible.

  • Wells Cathederal ‘High Parts’ Tours. Limited places are available for this one and half hour tour for which you must be fit and healthy. There are 250 steps (some uneven) and it is only 14 inches wide at the narrowest point. Min. recommended donation £5.50 per person payable on the day.
There are only three tours available so please book in advance.
     Friday     -      2.30pm
     Saturday -    10.30am (two tours)
Other guided tours are available for those unable to participate in this tour.

  • Friday evening: a cold buffet meal will be served from 8.30pm and the bar will be open from 7.30pm.

  • Saturday: At leisure to explore the beautiful City with it’s vibrant market and many quaint shops or join the ‘High Parts Tour’ of the Cathederal.
At 12.30pm a coach will be available to transport you to The Thatched Cottage, Shepton Mallet for lunch – individuals to pay for this which will have to be pre ordered nearer the date – this will also be the venue for the Senate AGM.  We then transfer to Glastonbury Abbey for a conducted tour and Monks talk in the Abbott’s kitchen.

The coach will return you to your hotel in time to prepare for the evening meal. A drinks reception in the Gallery will precede a black tie dinner in the exclusive medieval Undercroft of the Bishops Palace (walking distance) where we hope to be joined by many Past National Presidents of BJC.

  • Sunday: You may wish to join a morning service in the Cathederal before beginning your journey home.

You may not be aware that this year is the 80th anniversary of BJC and with this in mind we have chosen an exclusive venue for the Black Tie Dinner on Saturday evening in the hope that it will attract as many Past National Presidents as possible.  I hope you will take this opportunity to renew old friendships and possibly make new ones.  Richard and I look forward to your company.

Mike
