Language Official language of the Congress is English.
Climate During the month of November, the climate is normally pleasant and temperature varies from 15-20° C.
Time Zone Indian Standard Time is five and a half hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +5 ½ hrs).
Currency The monetary unit is the Indian Rupee (Rs.), which comes in bank notes of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000. Smaller denominations come in coins of Re. 1, Rs 2, and Rs. 5.
Banks Most banks are open on all week days, working hours varying with some banks operating from 8 a.m. onwards until 8 p.m, with a one-hour lunch break from 1 p.m to 2 p.m; or from 10 a.m to 5 p.m., with a similar lunch break.
ATMs can be found everywhere. All major credit cards or bank cards (a strip of logos is usually displayed above the ATM) are widely accepted. Almost all ATMs have a language key to enable you to read the instructions in English.
Shopping Shops, bazaars and stores in shopping malls are normally open Sunday through Saturday from 11 a.m to 8 p.m.
Restaurants/Cafes You can find restaurants or cafes of varied cuisines and rates in parts of the city where you would reside, be it Chinese, Italian, Mexican, Indian Mughlai, South Indian etc or fast food joints and coffee shops such as KFC, Mc Donalds’, Subway, Pizza Hut, Nirulas’, Dominoes, Café Coffee Day, Barista etc.
Electricity The electrical current in India is 220 volts, 50 cycles alternating current (AC); wall outlets take 2 round prongs plug.
PTT Services Post offices offer PTT (Post, Telegraph, and Telephone) facilities. Post Offices are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on Saturdays.
VAT & Taxes The value-added tax here is 12.5%. Hotels and restaurants typically combine it with a service charge of 12.36%. Value-added tax is nearly always included in quoted prices.
Safety & Security Despite New Delhi being a modern city, you must be careful with your ways here for your own safety. You must avoid talking to strangers who may offer to show you around or get you discounts. Preferably one should not venture out alone, especially women, at night. However, you would not have such problems at the venues and the hotels you stay in, as private security will be vigilant.
Certificate of Attendance A Certificate of Attendance with your name will be prepared and available in your conference kit. Similarly, invoices for the conference registration fee and for any other activity (gala dinner, accommodation etc.) will be provided there with.
Conference Materials and Badges Please bring your official confirmation receipt to the Registration Desk to receive your bag with your badge and related materials. Admission to all meeting events requires presentation of the badges. If you lose your badge please apply for a new one at the Registration Desk. Admission to lunches and conference tour will be on the basis of the tickets provided in your registration kit.
Official Letter of Invitation An official letter of invitation designed to help overcome administrative difficulties in certain countries will be sent upon request.
