16th-19th October - Huntingdon Weekend

Huntingdonshire Weekend
16 – 18 October 2009

Come and join us in the beautiful Ouse Valley for a relaxing yet invigorating weekend as we walk one of the shorter sections of the Ouse Valley Way – the whole route is 150 miles so we will only do a part of it!

The weekend will be based in the ancient market town of St Ives (named after St Ivo a Persian Bishop) which has been home to Paul and Carol Hill (who are not quite so ancient) for over 20 years. We will be staying in the Dolphin Hotel which is right on the river Great Ouse with views of the historic bridge.

Friday evening we will all meet up in the Dolphin Hotel where tables will be reserved for us to eat in the hotel restaurant which offers a 3 course buttery service.

On Saturday after time for a brief visit to the farmers market we will set off along the Ouse Valley Way passing through the National Trust Mill at Houghton and on to Godmanchester for a pub lunch. In the afternoon those who want to continue walking will return to St Ives by a different route through local picturesque villages while the remainder of the group will return via Huntingdon and the local bus service with the opportunity to visit the Cromwell Museum in the centre of Huntingdon. Note all these venues are accessible by car and public transport so we can cater for a variety of distances that people want to walk.

On Saturday evening we will have the traditional formal meal with wine and the usual speeches and Senate friendship.

Sunday morning there will be time to explore St Ives or the local villages, attend one of the many churches or even try out the new guided bus to Cambridge (due to open late summer 2009).

Finally Paul and Carol would like to invite you to join them for lunch at their home in St Ives before you make your way back home.
