22nd-24th October - Northampton Weekend

A NORTHAMPTONSHIRE WEEKEND

Friday 22nd – Sunday 24th October 2010

Senators are invited to join our Northamptonshire weekend this Autumn – Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th October.

Our base for the weekend will be the four star Hilton Hotel, Northampton, right by Junction 15 of the M1.  A special weekend rate has been agreed with the hotel, to include dinner on Friday evening.

On Saturday morning we’ll be taken by coach to Salcey Forest, where we’ll walk “The Elephant Walk” - named after the Elephant Pond, which it passes by. These massive creatures worked in the forest during the Second World War, and came to this pond to cool off after a hard day's work. The trail incorporates the exciting, award winning Tree Top Way, a canopy walkway which rises to a height of 20 metres, giving a real 'squirrel's eye view' of the forest.  It’s a relatively easy walk taking no more than one hour.

From Salcey, we’ll be transported to Silverstone village for lunch at a local pub.  The village of Silverstone is known worldwide as the home of the British Grand Prix and the pub is full of motor racing memorabilia, making it a fascinating place to stop.

Thereafter we’ll be visiting Sulgrave Manor which is the ancestral home of George Washington.   We’ll be taken on a guided tour of the house – strolling through three centuries of English history and seeing the largest UK collection of George Washington memorabilia.

We’ll round off our visit to Sulgrave with afternoon tea before being taken back to the Hilton Hotel where there will be a gala dinner on Saturday evening.

On Sunday morning we’ve arranged a canal trip on the Grand Union Canal, from the historic canal village of Stoke Bruerne and through the Blisworth Tunnel, which is the third longest tunnel on the UK canal system.  We’ll return to Stoke Bruerne where you’ll be able to have anything from a light snack to a full meal at a canalside pub before leaving for home.  The village’s Waterways Museum is also well worth a visit if you have the time.

We have arranged a two night deal at the hotel - £140 per double/twin room or £100 per single room – both deals include dinner on the Friday evening.

The cost of the weekend activities will be £100 per person – this will include the coach travel, the Saturday lunch, the Sulgrave tour and afternoon tea, the Saturday night gala dinner – including wine - and the Sunday canal trip.

To reserve your spaces on the weekend, please complete and return the booking form attached to me.  The hotel accommodation should be booked direct with the Hilton Hotel and their “special rates” sheet is attached – this can be faxed back to them or you can reserve your room by phone – don’t forget to quote my reference GBUTA.

I look forward to welcoming you to Northamptonshire.
